About Me

Hello. I’m Sarah. I am a fully qualified, BACP registered integrative therapist working with children, adolescents and young adults.

Parents: I understand that in today’s world, young people are faced with a range of difficulties and challenges. These might result in overwhelming feelings of worry, anxiety, sadness or anger. I can support your young person with a range of issues from managing stress, school/university transition, navigating relationships, coping with loss, low mood, self-esteem, neurodiversity or identity. I have years of experience working with whole school communities in primary school and secondary school settings on a range of psychological and emotional issues. I trained with Place2Be, which promotes a child-led approach, weaving in different modalities, from person-centred, psychodynamic, systemic, CBT-informed and attachment theories. This means that I can be flexible in my approach to offer what your young person might need.

If you are a young person: I know that considering therapy can be intimidating and talking to someone about your innermost thoughts and feelings can feel daunting. I offer a warm, non-judgemental, supportive relationship. If talking feels too much, I can work with that. I work with play and creative materials as a way to allow us to explore your thoughts and feelings safely and at your own pace. Depending on your issue, I can help you reframe a difficult situation, process a traumatic event, help to shift unhelpful patterns of behaviour or develop healthy coping skills for the future.

Getting Started

In the first instance please email me to say what you are seeking from therapy for yourself or your young person. If it feels like I can help, I will offer a follow-up phone call.

I will then offer a 60 minute face-to-face assessment as the next step. For young people under 16, I carry out the assessment with parents and with the young person. This allows me to understand the young person’s history and their current situation as well as areas of challenge or difficulty. It also allows us to establish how we will work together and provides an opportunity to ask any questions.

If we decide to go ahead after the assessment session: Typically, I would offer 10-20 sessions of therapy depending on the issue, but this is something we can talk about together. I would recommend a minimum of 6 sessions to start with, to give enough time to establish a trusting relationship.

The content of sessions is confidential (unless there are any safety concerns). There are opportunities for parents to speak to me mid-point through to review the work to gauge how things are progressing and after therapy has ended, to discuss strategies which might be helpful going forwards.
