Matthew Baskott – Gestalt Psychotherapist (Senior Trainee Psychotherapist)
About Me
Hi, I am Matthew, and my pronouns are he/him. I offer short-term and ongoing one-to-one psychotherapy for adults and have been working with clients in the charity sector and privately for over three years. I am also an established group psychotherapist running personal development groups for Mind in Camden. I hold an MA in Gestalt therapy, a holistic, integrative and existential approach to life. I am in advanced clinical training working towards full accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
Therapy is about increasing our ability to respond to our situation. I work in a relational and embodied way, supporting you to understand your experience in the here and now through incorporating mindfulness into my practice. Mindfully knowing ourselves helps develop agency and choice-fullness in responding to our struggles.
Healing happens in relationships, and I revere the therapeutic relationship as a space where I commit to being fully present for you, no matter how you show up. Often our habitual patterns of relating will emerge during therapy, granting us direct access to how you experience your situation. My role is to offer you enough support to become aware of the process so you can fully know yourself. With that knowledge, you choose how to be.
What I offer
I have worked in private practice for the past two years and have seen many clients from all walks of life. I have managed community mental health services for the past seven years and can accept clients who may experience severe and distressing mental health adaptations. I spent two years as a counsellor for London’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ charity, where I developed sensitivity to the unique experiences of people who express themselves through gender, sexual and relationship diversity. I have a background in creative writing and bring my creativity to the therapeutic relationship through image work, metaphors, fantasy, play and drama. When used appropriately, these tools can help us cut through the narratives we tell ourselves and uncover a more profound truth.
I work with an array of experiences, including:
– Anxiety
– Depression and sadness
– Low self-esteem and low confidence
– Relationships and dating, including dating apps
– Sexuality, including coming out
– Complex mental health diagnoses, such as psychosis, schizophrenia, personality configurations
– Identity
– Loss of meaning
– Work stress and burn-out
– Worries about sex
– Trauma
– Self / other oppression dynamics such as homophobia, racism, misogyny, religious persecution, bullying
And many more…
