ABOUT SPACE TO BE YOU

Our therapy rooms are based on the site of the St Joseph’s Hospice on Mare Street in Hackney, London E8.

We have 20 beautifully appointed consulting rooms which are suitable for talking therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, couples therapy, children’s therapy, hypnotherapy, coaching, massage therapy, bodywork/ somatic therapy, breathwork and more.

FACILITIES

Space To Be You has 20 therapy rooms over two floors, 10 of which are located on the first floor and 10 on the second floor.

Each floor has four toilets per floor and a dedicated waiting room for when you arrive, or if you are accompanying someone else to therapy. Wifi You can even use the waiting time to book a massage if you wish!

We have a dedicated intercom system. Your therapist will provide you with a room number which you will use to call their room.

Our space is light, airy with natural light and designed to provide a calm retreat away from the bustle of Hackney.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Confidentiality and privacy are the cornerstones of effective therapy.

At Space To Be You, our therapists adhere to strict professional and ethical guidelines regarding privacy.

What you share in therapy remains confidential with limited exceptions required by law, which will be fully explained during your first session.

Our Hackney premises are designed with privacy in mind, including soundproofed therapy rooms and discreet waiting areas.

All rooms have solid concrete walls and sealed doors, providing the privacy and confidentiality you would expect from a dedicated therapy centre.

Space To Be You welcomes clients from all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or disability.

Our Hackney therapist centre is on the first and second floor and not have a lift but we can accommodate various accessibility needs.

We have therapists with expertise in working with Hackney’s diverse communities and can, in some cases, offer therapy in languages other than English such as Turkish, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Greek, and Polish.

We are perfectly located in East London, within walking distance from Bethnal Green, Cambridge Health, London Fields and Hackney Central stations.

The building itself on the site of the St Joseph’s Hospice, but in a separate building away from the hospice itself, just off to the right as you enter the car park area.

Brief consultation: Most therapists offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where you can briefly talk about your struggles to help them understand your needs, get a feel for the therapist, and arrange your first session.

First session: 50-minute assessment to explore your concerns and establish goals.

Ongoing therapy: Psychotherapy is typically once per week at the same time each week. If you need to change or cancel a session, please discuss with you therapist directly.

Review points: Regular check-ins to ensure therapy is meeting your needs.

Ending: Planned ending when you’ve achieved your goals.

We are conveniently located near Cambridge Heath, London Fields and Hackney Central with excellent public transport links. This location is also very well connected from central, south and west London, with many clients travelling from outside of Hackney.

We are open 7am to 10am allowing therapy sessions to be help in the evening and weekend appointments which can accommodate varied work schedules.

Some therapists also offer the option of outdoor walking therapy sessions in nearby London Fields and Victoria Park.

Hackney Therapy Qualifications

All of our Hackney, London-based therapists are registered or accredited with the reputable UK bodies such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), meaning they must adhere to their ethical frameworks.

Most our psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists hold diplomas or degrees in counselling, psychology, or related fields from around London and the UK, such as University of East London, Metanoia Institute, Terapia, and Regent’s University, as well as other recognised European and global universities.

At Space To Be You, we uphold the highest professional standards, and our clinic is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework which ensures confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ongoing supervision for all therapists.

HOW MUCH DOES HACKNEY THERAPY COST?

Cost of Hackney Therapy

Space To Be You is one of the largest therapy centres in London, with 20 rooms and over 60 therapists so we can offer a diverse range of fees catering to most budgets.

Here is a rough guide to how much Hackney therapy costs:

Individual therapy: Approximately £50 to £130, per 50 minute session

Couples therapy: Approximately £80 to £170 per session (50-90 minutes)

Trainee therapists: Approximately £30 upwards. These therapists are towards the end of their advanced training.

Some psychotherapist and counsellors also offer low cost, or a sliding scale based on your income. Please enquire directly with the therapist for more information.

Payment for therapy should be made directly with your therapists, either directly or through a private healthcare scheme such as BUPA or Vitality.

How soon can I get an appointment in Hackney?

Many therapists will be available to start immediately or within a few days if required. Please click on the Book Session button on this page and we will help you find a therapist that is available at short notice.

Do you offer online sessions as well as in-person therapy?
Yes, many of our therapists offer both face to face an online.

Are evening and weekend appointments available?
Yes, we are open from 7am to 10am, seven days a week. Therapists will have their own availability however.

Can I meet with a few different therapists before deciding?
Yes, although we recommend you have an initial consultation with one or more therapist before deciding on a therapist to work with. If the therapist is not right for you, they will understand if you would to stop working with them.

Do I need a GP referral to see a therapist at your practice?
A GP can refer you to a therapist, but that is not required. Most of our therapists provide therapy on a private basis.

Do you accept insurance?
Many of our therapist accept private insurance from providers like AXA, BUPA and Vitality. Please ask when you enquire.

What is your cancellation policy?
That will vary from therapist to therapist, but that should be explained to you in your first session.

How long does therapy usually last?
Therapy can vary depending on your individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from short-term work of 6 – 12 sessions for specific issues, while others find longer-term therapy more helpful for complicated or deep-rooted concerns. This might extend to several months or more.

How confidential is therapy at your practice?
Our clinic has thick concrete walls and our door are sealed to reduce noise so rest assured you confidentiality is assured.

What should I do if I need urgent help between sessions?
If you urgently need to speak to someone please contact your GP or call a 24 hour agency such as the NHS’ SLAM Crisis 24 hour mental health support line 0800 731 2864. If your distress triggers thoughts of self harm to yourself or to others please call 999 or visit an A&E department at a local hospital.

Can I contact my therapist between sessions?
Please speak to your therapist for their own protocols around communication between sessions.

Space To Be You is owned by Izabela Hunter, a child, adolescent and adult psychotherapist who designed the centre to be the perfect space for both therapists and clients.
