My name is Sasha Morphitis. I am an Integrative child and adolescent Psychotherapist. I work individually with clients of any age. I believe that growth & healing is often needed in the family system and in ways of relating. Therefore, I occasionally work with a parent and child together if appropriate, and if a child is under 12, I often offer reflective parenting sessions alongside the individual child therapy. This is in order to support the parent’s understanding and responses to their child. I enjoy the diversity of also working with adults, couples & families.
I am a trained and qualified DIR Floortime Practitioner, have extensive experience working therapeutically with neurodiverse clients and offer workshops in autism and neurodiversity for schools & Universities. I have a small Floortime practice, where I take referrals from families that are struggling with connecting with their child. Often autism is suspected or diagnosed, or sensory issues, emotional overwhelm, behavioural issues, or something that gets in the way of typical development and everyday relating.
Integrative Child Psychotherapy and DIR Floortime go hand in hand, and therefore, I practice a combination of the two depending on the reason for referral and the challenges. Both practices involve play, metaphor and the arts, particularly with younger clients. I have experience working with every type of issue or difficulty and feel so privileged to have journeyed alongside so many different clients who have all taught me so much.
I have a warm, relational approach, how you and I relate is significant. I am straight-forward, non-judgemental and compassionate and I show my clients respect by offering transparency and collaboration in our sessions. Having specialised in the last few years, in working therapeutically with differently wired individuals and their families, I have had a steep learning curve in all issues relating to neurodiversity both professionally and personally. In the last year I have also been working for a therapeutic foster agency ‘Bythebridge’. In this role, as well as developing and delivering training in neuroscience, trauma and therapeutic parenting, I supported foster parents to reflect on their parenting with compassion, curiosity and insight about what might be going on for their child. I have a lot of experience in supporting parents to understand some of the challenges and communications presented by their child. Much of my work has been supporting the development of positive connections and ways of relating, particular with children who have experienced trauma or are neuro diverse. I have become really interested in the body’s experiences, and how this presents in our feelings and behaviour and ways of relating.
Life can be really challenging, and we can all hit a rock in the road and feel like we need some support to get past it. It can feel like a big step to recognise what’s happening for you and to seek help. There is also no need to wait till you are in crisis to ask for support. If you are concerned about your child’s behaviour, learning, communication, social-emotional wellbeing, development or their relationship with you then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I work at Space to Be You on Wednesdays in term times and some holidays.
If you would like to see if we could work together and/or have questions, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultations, so we can chat before you decide if you would like to try a session. Just send me an email: [email protected] and we can arrange a time to speak.
If you would rather not speak before meeting feel free to send me an email with a little bit of information about why you may be seeking therapy. A few details about what you are finding challenging or what you are looking for. I will endeavour to respond by the next working day.
The first session will be an assessment I will take some notes and offer a space to share some background family history and presenting issues. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions, discuss your concerns and hopes for the future and we can make a plan of how to go forward.
